JUN 25, 2004 (newstodate): The number of countries to enforce Air AMS procedures will expand from August 1 when Korea follows suit.
Further down the pipeline are Canada that will introduce Air AMS from February 9, 2005, and Australia where a date has yet to be announced.
Holland and India have already implemented Air AMS requirements on the air cargo industry, and USA will implement the Air AMS in three phases beginning from August 13 and completed by the end of the year.
Ostensibly launched to enhance national security, the Air AMS requires airline to file AWB and HWB information on their cargo shipments to the national customs authorities before the aircraft lift off from their points of departure.
In the case of USA, information must be filed by the airlines not later than four hours prior to touch down at any US airport in case of long-haul flights, and by wheels up in case of flights with a duration of less than four hours.
Holland and India has taken a different approach by making the forwarders responsible for the filing of information
