JUN 04, 2004 (newstodate): Airbus is keeping a close eye to potentials for an A320 freighter conversion program, but it is still sometime in the future.
-Five years ago I would have expected the first demands for a conversion program to have become realistic by now, but the residual value of the aircraft remains so high as not to warrant this yet, says Stuart Mann, Airbus director product marketing A320 Family.
- I would be keen to see this happen and we would certainly grasp any opportunity, but even the oldest A320 aircraft are still making good money for their owners in the passenger market; so no one is eager to convert them into freighters, he says.
He says Airbus is convinced that there is really a market for a regional freighter the size and capacity of the A320, and so far it remains uncovered.
