MAY 24, 2004 (newstodate): Turkish Airlines has opened negotiations with aircraft manufacturers as part of its plan for fleet upgrade and expansion.
According to local media, THY may want up to 12 leased aircraft to replace its current 11 BAe regional jets currently being maintained.
Eventually the aircraft will need up to additional 19 or 20 new aircraft.
By year-end THY will operate a total of 68 aircraft, expected to increase further to 75 by mid-2005, and up to 90 by mid-2006, sources say.
