MAY 06, 2004 (newstodate): In parallel to the USA, India has now introduced new, strict security measures for all incoming shipments.
As with the US AMS regulations, India now also requires all air cargo import shipments to be reported electronically to the customs authorities prior to their arrival on any flight.
But in contrast to the US model, India has made the freight forwarders responsible for the corrent and timely tranfer of cargo details, and the forwarders are also expected to actually pay for the transmission of data, while in the US AMS model the airlines hold this obligation.
The price for the transfer of data has been set at euro 0.30 per message.
The new Indian procedures took effect from May 10.
