MAY 12, 2004 (newstodate): With the accession into the EU of 10 new member states, new EU border inspection posts have emerged, too.
In total 37 new BIPs have been authorised including six airports.
The new BIP airports are Warsaw Okecie Airport in Poland, Vilnius Airport in Lihuania, Luqa Airport in Malta, Larnaka Airport in Cyprus, Prague Ruzyne Airport in the Czech Republic, and Budapest Ferihegy Airport in Hungary.
Other new BIPs include stations at railway junctions, highways and harbours.
The exact content of the authorisations of the new BIPs contain a number of restrictions on the goods to be accepted reflecting the concrete contitions as to equipment, sanitation, temperature control capability and a range of other parametres.
The highest ranking as to capability is held by Hungary's Budapest Ferihegy Airport.
As a consequence of Europe's new border-drawing after the EU enlargement, a number of existing BIPs have had their designation withdrawn as they are not any longer within EU border state lines.
