MAY 19, 2004 (newstodate): British Airways World Cargo is a strong supporter of GF-X as a preferred electronic boooking channel and industry portal, but so far concrete results are not too impressive.
-We reckon that the proportion of electronic bookings through GF-X still remains below five percent or our totals, says Gareth Kirkwood, BA World Cargo general manager.
-We still believe that at the end of the day electronic bookings will dominate due to the significant coast savings involved. But the airfreight industry remains heavily addicted to papers and phone calls and there is little movement in the industry, he says.
While there may be regional differences Kirkwood says no region today lives up to expectations as to increase of electronic bookings, while GF-X now encompasses 140 BAWC sales points in 20 countries worldwide.
