MAYT 10, 2004 (newstodate): Austrian Airlines is restructuring its aircraft fleet to current market demands.
The airline has thus added two Airbus A319 and one Canadair RJ aircraft to the fleet on the basis of long-term fixed purchase agreements.
Austrian Airlines has further decided to acquire nine reasonably priced medium haul Fokker 100 jets, as well as taking out six further options on the same type of aircraft. At the same time, four MD-87 aircraft will be retired from service in coming months.
The Austrian Airlines Group has already taken on two Fokker 100 aircraft, currently being overhauled prior to their entry into service.
To reduce costs and squeeze out surplus capacity, one Boeing 737, three Boeing 767, one Dash-8 (with purchase agreement) and three Embraer 145 aircraft were leased out as per 31 March.
