MAY 11, 2004 (newstodate): Iran's new international airport at Tehran, the Imam Khomeini International Airport enjoyed little breathing after its formal opening on Saturday.
After only one of six scheduled landings by international airlines had touched down, the military moved in to block the runways with vehicles, banning the Turkish company that operates the airport from the area, and forcing its staff to withdraw.
The Iranian government has now opened an inquiry about who ordered the intervention while the airport remains closed till later notice.
