APR 22, 2004 (newstodate): Contrary to airlines like Lufthansa Cargo that does not expect major impact on business after the EU enlargement, TNT is taking steps to capitalise on the immiment EU expansion.
The company will invest euro 11 million in new linehaul connections, a new road hub at Warsaw, additional sortation facilitites, and new vehicles and drivers.
Thus TNT will launch 16 new linehaul connections between eight new EU members on May 17, 25 new vehicles and 35 drivers will join the force, and the capacity at ten sortation plants will be expanded.
TNT has identified two key areas of competitive advantage for the company.
One is the company's strong presence in the three countries reported to having the biggest growth potential over the next 16 years: Latvia, Bulgaria, and Romania that are also markets where TNT already has a large share for imports at 61, 43, and 40 percent, respectively.
Another is TNT's investments in its two main hubs at Vienna and Warsaw that are both positioned at the crossroads of the countries with the biggest growth potential, the company says.
