APR 22, 2004 (newstodate): According to Czech aviation consulting company Czech Aerospace, Boeing 737-800 is clearly overtaking the Airbus A320 as far as residual values are concerned.
-With currently no Boeing 737-800s in store, and with deliveries in 2003 down to 69 against 126 in 2002, the availability of the aircraft is declining, while the value and lease rates are going up, says Tomas Chlumecky, Czech Aerospace managing director.
-By contrast, the value of the Airbus A320 is declining as Airbus has continued to pump up production, 233 aircraft in 2003, and 236 in 2002, he says.
According to Mr Chlumecky, with more than 50 A320 aircraft in store, and with production of the aircraft still on 2003-levels, the availability of the aircraft will continue to rise, and the aircraft lease rates will go down.
