APR 16, 2004 (newstodate): From April 2, Icelandic budget airline Iceland Express has doubled its frequencies from Iceland to London and Copenhagen from one to two daily flights.
The added capacity is welcomed by Kales Airlines Services, the carrier's cargo GSA in Denmark.
-Traditionally, traffic between Denmark and Iceland has been dominated by only a few players, so the market responded cautiously to the entry of a newcomer, says Jacob Bo Jepsen, Kales Denmark general manager.
-The introduction of added capacity is, however, a strong signal to assure the market of the airline's long-term commitment, so we are confident that will further strenghten our position in the market, he says.
Mr Jepsen says the carrier's export shipments from Denmark to Iceland have been growing constantly, comprising perishables, consumer goods and a broad range of general cargo restrained, though, by limitations on dimensions to match the cargo hold of the Boeing 737-300 operated on the route with some two tonnes of capacity per flight.
