APR 16, 2004 (newstodate): On April 1, Icelandic budget airline, Iceland Express took over its second Boeing 737-300 aircraft on a wet lease agreement with UK leasing company Astraeus.
-The added capacity enabled us to introduce twice-daily services to Copenhagen and London, which is also a strong asset for our airfreight department, says Svar Palsson, Iceland Express cargo manager.
According to Mr Palsson, transfer cargo through Copenhagen Airport is gaining in importance, and now comprises about 50 percent of the total volumes.
-We have entered a very favorable agreement with SAS Cargo to transfer our cargo to and from SAS' extensive route network, which enables us to sell cargo in our home market to any destination served by SAS, he says.
-With this cooperation, Icelandic exporters can deliver shipments to Iceland Express destined for virtually any parts of the world withour further need to queue up by other airlines, says Svar Palsson.
