APR 29, 2004 (newstodate): In Q1, Boeing Commercial Airplanes improved its profitability in a demanding market.
Results for the first quarter reflect strong operating performance, slightly higher delivery volumes, and increased investment in the new 7E7 airplane that has now landed its launch order from ANA for 50 aircraft.
During the first quarter, deliveries of commercial airplanes increased seven percent to 76 airplanes when compared with the first quarter of 2003, consisting of a higher proportion of single-aisle airplane deliveries.
Boeing is seeing the commercial airplane markets as slowly improving with delivery recovery expected in 2006. And the company continues to develop the 7E7 for first delivery into stronger markets in 2008. Market conditions for commercial space are expected to remain challenging, Boeing says.
