MAR 10, 2004 (newstodate): The SAS Board today decided to split SAS Airlines into three separate companies in Denmark, Norway and Sweden, respectively.
In Norway, the SAS-owned Braathens will be merged with the new Norwegian SAS Airline and named SAS Braathens.
The current commercial activities by SAS Airline will be organised within fully-owned subsidiaries in each Scandinavian country.
SAS Airline's international traffic will, however, remain within the SAS Consortium.
The moves are part of ths SAS Board's efforts to realise cost savings across the company of around SEK 14 billion.
Another extraordinary Board meeting on March 23 will decide on the implementation of the decisions.
