MAR 05, 2004 (newstodate) The Kaliningrad Khrabrovo Airport is poised for a thorough modernisation to enable it to meet the needs of today's operators and travellers.
A decision was signed on March 2 by the president of the Kaliningrad region, I Klebanov, Aeroflot's general director V Okulov and other Aeroflot top-brass officials.
Under the agreement, Aeroflot will invest USD five million in the building of the new airport, including a totally new infrastructure.
Earlier, sources said that the carrier KaliningradAvia planned to manage the modernisation, but with the new desicion the airline is now out of the process.
The new airport will consolidate plans for buildling up Kaliningrad as a major hub for traffic between Russia and destinations in Western Europe.
