MAR 08, 2004 (newstodate): Earlier reports by newstodate on the delay of enforcing US Customs regulations on electronic submittance of air cargo manifest have now been confirmed.
US Customs has decided on August 13 for ports in 18 states in the South, mid-Atlantic and
Northeast. Ports in 21 states in the Midwest and central region will be added from October 13, and the deadline for the rest of USA will be December 13.
The re-adjusted time-frame will allow for further company staff training, certification of software, and "modification of critical aspects
of the automated manifest system", says US Customs, thus admitting a problem on its own part.
