MAR 17, 2004 (newstodate): Lithuanian airline Aviapaslauga has signed a commercial partnership with UK-based freighter operator AirRep to operate its third Tu-204 freighter.
Under the agreement, Aviapaslauga has placed the AirRep Tu-204 on the Lithuanian register and will provide fully-trained local crews and operational facilities, while marketing of the aircraft will be handled by AirReps GSA arm, AirRep Cargo Europe, which has associates throughout Europe.
AirRep has also signed an arrangement with Aviapaslauga to operate and market a 10 tonnes capacity Antonov AN-74 from later this month.
The agreements give the Baltic and Nordic markets access to freighter capacity immediately ahead of the Baltic states' inclusion into the EU from May 1 this year.
-We have had a long-standing interest in the Baltic States, orginating 10 years ago with Inversija of Latvia, with whom we have operated two IL-76 freighters with great success. The region is now poised for major growth with the Baltic States entry to the EU, and we are ready to demonstrate the Tu-204's capabilities to this much wider market. With the addition of the AN74, we have the ideal combination of aircraft to suit a wide variety of needs, says Andy Lewis, AirRep managing director.
AirRep's first Tu-204 is operating regular flights from Turkey and Italy to Moscow. The second aircraft is fully-deployed on AirRep's five-times weekly scheduled services from Brussels to Moscow.
Within the next two years, AirRep plans to take delivery of a further two Perm-engined Tu-204F aircraft.
