MAR 17, 2004 (newstodate): Lithuanian Airlines is planning to lease ATR-42 aircraft from recently privatised, former LAL-subsidiary Air Lithuania, say Lithuanian industry sources.
If the lease agreement is landed, Lithuanian Airlines will introduce the ATR-42 on its routes between Vilnius and Moscow.
As Aeroflot is expected to pull out due to lack of aircraft to operate the route after the enforcement of EU's noise restrictions in the Baltic countries, the market will need more capacity than available with Lithuanian Airlines' SAAB aircraft, sources say.
It is thus expected that Aeroflot and Lithuanian Airlines will eventually enter a code-share agreement on the route served by Lithuanian Airlines, with capacity shared between the two airlines.
