FEB 17, 2004 (newstodate): Not exactly a booming year for air cargo out of the US market - but it still managed to produce a 9.7 percent increase in volumes on IATA carriers.
USA generated a total of 1,430,716 tonnes of air cargo by 2,106,540 shipments.
Number of shipments thus rose by 2.3 percent, indicating that the average shipment size is growing significantly, probably reflecting an increasing market share by freighter operations at the expense of belly loads.
US exports for Europe were up 7.9 percent, below average growth as was also the case with Asia, up 9.4 percent.
US exports to Africa were up 13.7 percent, exports to the Middle East up 20.7 percent, and exports to Latin America increased by 25.4 percent.
US exports to North and Central America were alone in dipping, compared to 2002, by 3.2 percent.
Europe remains the single largest market for US IATA air cargo exports, totalling 669,334 tonnes, or 46,8 percent of the total volume.
Asia comes second, totalling 501,186 tonnes, or 35 percent.
