FEB 27, 2004 (newstodate): The UN World Food Programme has initiated an airbridge to Eastern Chad to provide food to refugees from Western Sudan.
WFP's airbridge operates from the capital N'Djamena to Abeche and other towns in eastern Chad.
The organisation has chartered a Beechcraft aircraft with a cargo capacity of one tonne.
UNHCR also operates an aircraft between N'Djamena and eastern Chad.
WFP has received USD 5.4 million in donations from the United States, Japan, Norway and Switzerlandin response to its appeal for USD 19.5 million to provide 21,000 tonnes of food for the Sudanese refugees in eastern Chad.
