FEB 27, 2004 (newstodate): EUROCONTROLs controller-pilot data link, CPDLC implementation programme has now cornered the critical 100 aircraft-mark.
Lately, Air Europa, FedEx Europe and Hapag Lloyd joined the programme, expanding its reach to two new market segments, charter and cargo airlines.
These 100 aircraft will generate more than 140,000 CPDLC equipped flights per year in the airspace of Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, France, Spain and Portugal.
Named Link 2000+, the program aims at enhancing flight safety by offering ny modes of communicaiton between aircraft cockpit crews in the air and ATC staff on the ground.
To spur the airborne CPDLC equipage, EUROCONTROL is currently exploring the use of route charge reductions as an incentive to more program particapants.
