FEB 04, 2004 (newstodate): Brussels National Airport has gained incrased runway capacity after a recent exercise that rounded off the first phase of a project by Eurocontrol together with partners.
Taking part in the exercise were, besides Eurocontrol, Brussels National Airport Authority, Belgocontrol, Birdy Airlines, SN Brussels Airlines, Virgin Express and VLM.
The exercise produced a a significant reduction in runway occupancy times and pilot reaction times, which increased the capacity of
the runways at the airport.
The airport has also seen environmental benefits as aircraft holding times, both on the ground and in the air, have now been considerably reduced.
The airport will conduct a series of later exercises to involve all airlines that operate at Brussels National Airport.
