DEC 08, 2004 (newstodate): For the first time ever, Dubai Cargo Village expects this year's total volumes to exceed one million tonnes, up some 28 percent on last year.
In 2003 the facility generated 940,595 tonnes, up by 20 percent on the preceding year.
The forecast is now 1.2 million tonnes in 2004, about 50 percent of chich is generate by Emirates, and the rest by the center's other 20 freight operators.
While freighter traffic is heavy at Dubai, 60 percent of the volumes passing through Dubai Cargo Village is still carried in passenger aircraft bellies.
