DEC 07, 2004 (newstodate): Swedish airport Orebro reports total cargo volumes around the same levels than last year, but with fewer flight operations.
-During the first half of 2004 we had a total of 150-200 charter operations, but we will proably not reach last year's 325 charter operations, says Haakan Nilsson, Orebro Airport cargo manager.
-However, the trend has been towards larger freighter aircraft, including quite a number of AN-124, Airbus A300F and DC-8 flights. On the other hand the number of IL-76 operations has decreased significantly although we can still accept this aircraft at our airport, he says.
The significant volume of charter freighter operations is driven by the region's big companies including Volvo, Atlas Copco and other major Swedish exporting companies.
Since September 1, Orebro Airport and Cargo Centre at Stockholm Arlanda Airport have cooperated on a project allowing the region's importers and exports to deliver export and pick up import shipments to and from Arlanda Airport at Orebro, entailing a significant reduction in leadtimes by avoiding own trucking to and from Arlanda.
-This will add cargo volumes at Orebro, and we are seeing success from this project after a few months already, says Haakan Nilsson.
