DEC 13, 2004 (newstodate): A new all-cargo airline, Thai Air Cargo is now poised for launch in 2005.
Behind the initiative are Thailand's CTI Holding with 51, and Qantas with 49 percent of the shares.
The project has long been underway, originally planned for launch in 2000 already. But fluctuating Asian and world economies, and the effects from 9/11 stalled the initiative for a long period.
A driving force behind the project is Swedish Lennart Holmgren, who has been working in Thailand for decades, and was CEO for CTI in Bangkok until his retirement five years ago.
-The project has required much planning efforts and years to mature, but as the agreement with Qantas has now been secured, we are now looking for a MD-11F to get us airborne by mid-2005, says Lennart Holmgren.
