DEC 15, 2004 (newstodate): Moscow Domodedovo Airport is positioning itself for a role as the capital's flower hub.
The airport, owned and managed by East Line Group, will work together with Russian flower agents to build up volumes in a dedicated facility providing the optimal conditions for handling the perishables.
-We are building a system where Airbridge Cargo flies in flowers from Luxembourg that have beeen flown in by Cargolux' freighters from South America. Within this traffic system, flowers can be distributed in the Moscow region on their day of arrival in Europe from producers in South America, says Wlad Ljaschko, East Line Logistics commercial director.
The cargo terminal at Domodedovo Airport currently handles some 4,000 tonnes of Russian exports, and 8,000 tonnes of Russian imports including about 2-3,000 tonnes of perishables, and this segment is now being targetted for further expansion.
In the pipeline of East Line Group at Domodedovo is construction of another 10,000 sqm cargo facility, to be decided upon in 2005.
