DEC 13, 2004 (newstodate): Re-opening of flights from Vienna to Almaty, Kazakhstan, remains high on the wishing-list of Austrian Airlines Cargo.
-We operated at Almaty till three or four years ago as one of the first Western airlines to do so. Operations were, however, suspended due to some snags in traffic rights procedures, says Franz Zoechbauer, AUA VP Cargo.
-We remain convinced that there is a strong business case, and we would like to re-open flights to Almaty as soon as the inter-state air traffic rights negotiations come to a succesful conclusion, he says.
Cargo traffic at Almaty is primarily driven by the ever-increasing oil exploration in the region.
