DEC 16, 2004 (newstodate): In its latest edition of the Global Market Forecast, Airbus sees a need for 700 new and 2,400 converted freighters during 2004-2024.
Airbus bases its projections on the assumption that airfreight will grow by 5.9 percent in FTKs over the period, ahead of passenger traffic's increase by 5.3 percent.
Airbus also expects the larger freighter segment to experience the strongest growth during the period, accounting for more than half the number and two-thrids of the value of all new freighters.
In total, Airbus sees a need for more than 17,300 new aircraft during the next 20 years, worth 1.9 trillion USD, and this includes some 1,250 new aircraft seating 450 or more passengers like the A380 and presumably new versions of Boeing's jumbo-jet.
