NOV 16, 2004 (newstodate): The German airport Leipzig/Halle has received a significant boost by DHL's decision to locate its European hub there.
-The declaration of intent by DHL to come to Leipzig/Halle will also help increase the interest of the cargo sector in taking advantage of the locational advantages which the airport has to offer, says Eric Malitzke, Flughafen Leipzig/Halle GmbH managing director.
The Free State of Saxony has made a particularly significant commitment in the financing of the infrastructure requirements, the procurement and availability of which are seen as the decisive factors behind the declaration of intent by the German Post Office.
Some 290 million Euros will be going into investments by the airport shareholders in the reconstruction of the South runway, including taxiways and aprons, as well as 60 million Euros into noise protection measures and land acquisition.
