NOV 16, 2004 (newstodate): Polish cargo pallets, licensed by the Polish Rail PKP, are piling up at terminals, airports, cargo handling stations after having lost their certification after May 1.
The certifying body, UIC AG, has revoked Polish Rail's authorisation to manufacture and maintain cargo pallets after it has been established that the company has not observed its obligations towards monitoring and producing pallets.
These pallets are therefore now not interchangable or recyclable and must be considered single-use pallets only.
Like other "EUR"-marked cargo pallets, the Polish pallets are widely used in trucking of airfreight shipments.
As one example, Billund Airport reports that 150 Polish pallets are already now being stored and out of production.
