NOV 17, 2004 (newstodsate): Billund Airport yesterday broke its current all-year record, set in 2001 with 41,761 tonnes.
-We have now passed the 42,000 mark, and the ultimate peak period is still ahead of us, says Jan Ditlevsen, Billund Airport cargo manager.
According to Mr Ditlevsen, the airport now expects this year's total to land around 46-47,000 tonnes after a year with sustained growth figures.
While both imports and exports have grown, the trend has been especially strong in imports, up 17.2 percent during January-October.
The airport is striving to attract a direct, regular freighter service from the Far East, also boosted by the Danish textile industry's recent appeals for a cargo airline to put Billund on its route map.
