NOV 09, 2004 (newstodate): If fair play rules the sky over the Faroe Islands, we bid any competitor welcome, says Magni Arge, Atlantic Airways CEO.
-We are used to competition and are fully aware that there are two concessions in the Faroese air traffic market, he says.
-I understand that DAT intends to take a share of the Christmas peak and then stay out during the slack season until March. If such a pattern can be accepted by the Faroese government I will fell less obliged to maintain a finely-tuned traffic program all through the year as is the case now when we have invested much capacity in serving the market with increased frequences even during low seasons, he says.
Mr Arge does not, however, expect the coming competition to be focussed on rates mainly.
-DAT operates small aircraft and will rely on a fair pricing reflecting their operating costs. If rates become an issue we will of course consider the situation. But after all rates must be aproved by our government so I doubt that we will be heading towards a cut-price competition.
-I am also sceptical towards the Faroese market's appraisal of turbojet services with longer flying time. After all, Faroese passengers a like passengers in any market: they want fast jet services, says Magni Arge.
