NOV 11, 2004 (newstodate): -Our customers are freight forwarders only, says Lithuania's youngest cargo GSA, AAS Alpha Airline Services.
-We absolutely do not sell directly to shippers, being purely in the cargo GSA business, says Daiva Palm, AAS managing director.
AAS was set up by Mrs Palm only in July this year, serving SAS Cargo and, from August, Icelandair Cargo in the Lithuanian market.
-SAS Cargo is certainly a high-profiled company in the market, with six weekly freighters to SAS Airline's international hub at Copenhagen Airport, and two daily passenger flights to Copenhagen and one daily flight to Stockholm.
-With the freighter service we can accept out-size cargo until late in the afternoon, and the shipments will arrive later in the evening in Copenhagen, in time for onward connections on SAS' international network including notably the routes to the USA and the Far East. This grants the company a very strong position in the market, she says.
-Icelandair Cargo is off-line at Vilnius, but shipments are taken from here to Copenhagen for connections to Reykjavik. There is some onward traffic also to the airline's US destinations, and we expect the opening of Icelandair's new route to San Francisco by March 2005 to add further business to us as well, says Mrs Palm.
