OCT 14, 2004 (newstodate): Siberia Airlines' decision to speed up the retirement of the TU-154B fleet will not affect the airline's coming winter traffic.
-The early decommissioning of Tu-154B aircraft will not significantly impact Siberia's winter flight schedule, as during this time the number of flights is significantly reduced as compared to the summer season, says Anton Yeremin, Siberia Airlines commercial director.
-And in 2005, flight schedules will be developed using the current fleet which will be augmented by newer, more fuel-efficient next generation aircraft, he says.
The airline currently operates eight TU-134B aircraft that will be retired before the end of this year already rather than by 2007 as earlier planned.
The decision to ground the fuel-inefficient aircraft is part of efforts to combat the impact of rising fuel costs.
Another efforts in the same direction is the introduction of electronic bookings.
