OCT 29, 2004 (newstodate): From October 31, SAS Cargo will operate its twice-weekly Gothenburg-Hong Kong freigther service with Emirates SkyCargo.
SAS Cargo's current service contract with Lufthansa Cargo expires on the same date, necessitating a change of carrier partner.
-None of our other WOW-partners were able to offer the capacity we were looking for, so when we heard that Emirates SkyCargo wanted to start up a freighter to Hong Kong, we contacted them, says Kenneth Marx, SAS Cargo president and CEO.
SAS Cargo's agreement with Emirates
SkyCargo is a blocked space agreement, where SAS Cargo is buying an unspecified part of the cargo capacity of the Boeing 747-400 freighter.
Together with the cargo capacity on SAS' Airbus 340 passenger flights to China, SAS Cargo's freight capacity to China will be some 400 tons per week.
SAS Cargo is further investigating the possibily of adding more capacity to Hong Kong in the spring of 2005.
