OCT 25, 2004 (newstodate): SAS Cargo is now responding to the circular issued by the Danish Freight Forwarders Association on October 18, warning against irregularities connected to airline trucking operations from Denmark.
The circular specified a few instances where Billund Airport, noted in the AWB as "airport of departure", had actually never received the goods before they were trucked into continental airports, thus creating a potential security breach.
-SAS Cargo has taken notice of the risk of "bypasses" neglecting the AWB data, and has therefore initiated inhouse procedures to ensure that no airfreight is loaded on aircraft without having passed airport security checks, says Ulrik Marschall, SAS Cargo communications manager.
-SAS Cargo in Copenhagen and Billund has thus introduced "security declaration" on all shipments on trucks leaving these airports. This also implies that any shipment arriving at SAS Cargo at these airports will be fully screened before being accepted as ready for carriage, he says.
