OCT 29, 2004 (newstodate): From 2006, Swedish county of Uppsala is planning to launch their Uppsala Arna Airport as a new alternative in mid-Sweden.
Until 2003, the airport was a military air base, with two rumways and basic infrastructure.
The project group plans to attract traffic from budget airlines, charter and cargo airlines, and plans include the building of a new cargo terminal and warhouse, and claims already to be negoiating with potential airline customers.
Plans also include the set up of a new airline to operate traffic to and from the Baltic region.
