OCT 21, 2004 (newstodate): Competition in the market for Transatlantic flights will stiffen in the Swedish market.
So far SAS has been alone in providing daily services from Stockholm to New York with Airbus A330-300 aircraft, but Continental has now announced the decision to operate daily flights between Stockholm and New York from June 2, 2005, with Boeing 757-200 aircraft.
And already from November 1 this year, Malaysia Airlines will start thrice-weekly operations between Stockholm and New York with Boeing 777 aircraft.
Cargo uplift capacity will increase correspondingly.
New York comes second on the Top 30 cities list by IATA CASS.
In September, the Swedish market generated 509 tonnes of IATA export airfreight to New York, and during January-September the volume was 4,737 tonnes.
The volumes are, however, not increasing, showing instead a decline by 4.3 percent in September, and by one percent during the first nine months of this year, further forcing rates down.
