OCT 26, 2004 (newstodate): Lithuanian forwarders are increasingly upset about cargo GSAs bypassing and competing with forwarders in direct dealings with shippers.
-Last week we asked a certain airline's GSA for a discounted rate for one shipment for a specific customer. We got a rate quotation, but it soon appeared that our "good" rate was certainly not the limit, says a Lithuanian forwarder that prefers to remain anonymous.
-We were, of course, trying to be competitive. But later our customer told us that they had already "agreed" with the airline/the GSA, based on a price difference against our offer at approximately 17 euro.
-The total amount involved was about 2,000 euro, and our profit was calculated at less than five percent. Moreover, all other charges for customs, handling, were also included.
-We are very upset, the forwarder says.
