OCT 20,2004 (newstodate): After the lift of the US-embargo on trade with Libya, the country's airline is preparing for a major aircraft fleet upgrade.
Libyan Arab Airlines is now in discussions with both Boeing and Airbus for aircraft acquisitions.
The airline is considering the Airbus A330 and Boeing 777 for long-haul operations, and the Airbus A320 or Boeing 737 for its short-haul fleet. Plans include acquisition of up to 24 new aircraft.
As a temporary solution, Libyan Arab Airlines is currently operating Tunisian-registered Airbus A300-600 and A320 aircraft on its routes.
