OCT 18, 2004 (newstodate): The long drawn-out battle between Airbus and Boeing over new aircraft to JAT has found its winner: Boeing.
The director of Serbia's national carrier JAT Airways, Aleksandar Milutinovic, is reported to have said on Friday that JAT was in final negotiations with Boeing.
JAT sources say that a batch of eight Boeing 737-800 will be bought, while two Boeing 767 extended-range aircraft will be taken on a lease arrangemnt.
JAT has thus negated its earlier deal in 1998 with Airbus on the purchase of eight A319 aircraft that were to be delivered by 2005.
The issue of the fate of JAT's downpayment on this order remains unsettled.
