OCT 19, 2004 (newstodate): The Balkan market is important to Swiss budget airline Helvetic Airways.
The airliner recently started operations into Macedonian destinations Skopje and Ohrid, and has also announced a new route to Pristina, Kosovo, from October 31.
-The Balkan operation with a daily flight to Skopje and Pristina and a weekly flight to Ohrid is an important segment for helvetic, says Thomas Frischknecht, helvetic COO.
-These markets aggregate about 15 percent of our total production. We are closely observing the market and might open up other Balkan routes in the future, he says.
helvetic is currently a pure passenger airline, but Mr Frishknecht does not rule the possibility of "changing this philosophy" at a later stage.
