OCT 25, 2004 (newstodate): Lithuanian forwarders are complaining about irregular airline cargo GSA behavious in the market.
-The are indeed problems with GSAs in Lithuania. Every forwarder experiences that most GSAs go directly to the shippers, bypassing their forwarder. Also some GSAs openly advise shippers to change forwarder into one of their own specific choice, says one Lithuanian forwarders, who requests to remain anonymous.
-We can only presume that there are some hidden reasons for such advice, he says.
Confirming this story, another Lithuanian forwarder says: -Yes, I can confirm that such problems exist. Only recently we lost a shipment because of one GSA, who offered much, much better rate to the shipper than we could ever obtain with the airline.
-Also some shippers now call on several agents/GSAs, shopping for better rate with the same airline. It is not a secret between us: everybody knows, he says.
Despite the strong criticism of irregular GSA behaviour, no source wants to speak out openly, or publicly name the airlines and GSAs they are accusing.
-Lithuania is a small market, with some 30 forwarders working with the GSAs. No forwarder would like to have a serious fight with them in fear of being thrown out of business.
