OCT 11, 2004 (newstodate): Austrian Airlines will start flights to Baghdad "as soon as secure flying is possible".
The plans were revealed at a press conference held at Tripoli on the occasion of the signing of the world's first interline agreement with Libyan Arab Airlines after the lifting of the US embargo on trade with the country.
Austrian Airlines plans to operate three weekly flights between Vienna and Baghdad, and traffic rights have already been granted by the Iraqi government.
-It is the same situation we had with Pristina in March 2000 - the French air force guarded our airplanes into and out of the airport, and the German troops secured the ground operation, said Josef Burger, Austrian Airlines head of marketing.
