OCT 01, 2004 (newstodate): Atlantic Airways will respond to the shortfall of Maersk Air services between the Faroe Islands and Denmark.
-We have announced this winter's program, starting from October 31, comprising 16 weekly flights on the routes, compared to nine in last year's winter program, says Magni Arge, Atlantic Airways CEO.
-By maintaining the frequency of the summer peak season unchanged through this winter we will be able to provide sufficient capacity to the market, he says.
-We acquired our third aircraft this year as a buffer capacity due to a favourable offer. Now this investment will serve its purpose well.
-To carter to the needs for air cargo capacity we will install cabin containers on two daily flights in and out of Copenhagen. We intend to assess the situation together with the freight forwarders after some time to see if this provides a match to the market.
-If more capacity is needed we will of course consider a freighter service, but this will clearly require a significant volume commitment and prospects of a balanced operation, he says.
-Even with a weekly freighter service, much cargo still needs to go expressly on passenger flights, so we are actually looking at a rather complex issue, says Mr Arge.
