OCT 22, 2004 (newstodate): The debate in Denmark over discrepancies between content of AWB regarding "airport of departure" and actual practise continues.
On October 18, The Danish Freight Forwarders Association issued a circular drawing attention to the security and juridical issues involved when pre-transportation of shipments by truck to continental airports do now actually initiate at the "airport of departure" but from other points outside the security controlled environments.
-I can only praise the Association for taking this remarkable initiative that pinpoints a substantial problem, says Jan Ditlevsen, Billund Airport cargo manager.
Billund Airport was actually mentioned in the circular as one airport where this problem had been detected.
-I consider this to a serious issue to shippers, freight forwarders, airports and authorities alike. Any breach in security affects the entire chain of operations and the business as a whole, he says.
-Also seen from the legal point of view, shippers may ask themsleves if they actually get the transportation they pay for, not to mention the legal issues if a security breach actually triggers a major accident, says Jan Ditlevsen.
