JAN 23, 2004 (newstodate): Russia is heading for a thourough revamp of it commercial airliner fleet before 2010.
According to figures released by the Russian Transport Ministry, close to 50 percent of all the Russian aircraft will have reached the end of their service life by that year, and by 2015 this proportion will have reached 80 percent.
Russia's rate of replacement is, however, totally inadequate to cope with the situation, currently constituting only 0.3 percent.
Even so, the Russian aviation industry stands idly by as very few orders on new aircraft are being placed by Russia's 210 airline operators .
