JAN 07, 2003 (newstodate): The initiative to launch a new freighter service early this year to take Norwegian fresh salmon exports to Japan through the Swedish airport, Kallax is moving forward.
As planned, meetings between the project partners are taking place in Oslo this week to settle the remaining issues including selection of the airline operator, yet unannounced, to provide the capacity.
Behind the project are Nord-Norsk Spedisjon and DFDS Transport.
Under the proposed concept, the salmon shipments will be trucked from the production sites in northern Norway to Kallax Airport within eight to ten hours, and flown to Japan along the polar route through Russian airspace, Arctica 1 entailing significant savings in flying time than conventional routes from Europe to Japan.
