JAN 26, 2004 (newstodate): Construction work has started on a new control tower at Swedish airport, Luleaa.
Marketed under the name of Kallax Airport, the airport is struggling to attract business as a re-fuelling stop for freighters, based on its favourable location near the entry/exit points to Arctica 1 over Russia's northern airspace.
While a break-though for the airport is still to be seen, activities so far include military traffic in connection to an aircraft test field.
The new tower will become operational in one year.
