JAN 05, 2004 (newstodate): KLM Cargo reports good performances in the Danish and Swedish markets, despite pressure on yields.
In Denmark, KLM Cargo has been able to increase its tonnages by some six or seven percent.
-The pattern during 2003 was highly abnormal, with some months like July, normally "thin", growing by 40 percent, as was also the case in October, says Soren Roerstroem, KLKM Cargo sales manager Denmark.
-But even if we did manage to up our tonnages, yields are of course down as is the case with all airline in the market, he says.
In contrast to Denmark, the Swedish air cargo market was significantly down in 2003, falling about 13 percent in November alone, but KLM Cargo still managed to hold its position.
-Despite the general drop in the market our volumes remained basically unchanged during the year, meaning that we increased our share of the market, says Bas van Goch, KLM Cargo sales manager Sweden.
Both Scandinavian sales manager agree that there was little sign of the traditional pre-Christmas boom in 2003, and peaks have almost levelled to a more stable average reflecting a turn to a logistics-driven business.
